SUMMARY:Mental Health First Aid Training
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce a FREE Mental Health First Aid Training on Friday\, December 6th. This is an incredible opportunity to ensure that someone on your team is trained and certified in this crucial life-saving tool. This is more important than ever\, as we know there will be increased mental health crises as a result of the trauma experienced with Hurricane Helene. \n\n \n\nRegistration closes on Wednesday\, November 17th. Limited spots are available and are first come\, first serve. We look forward to your participation in the training!\n\n \n\nVALUE TO YOU\n\nOne in five Americans has experienced a mental health challenge\, but many are reluctant to seek help or don't know where to turn for care. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a skills-based training course that teaches participants about mental health and substance-use challenges.\n\n\n\n"The mental health training was a valuable experience for me. It provided opportunity for me to recognize the signs and symptoms of someone who may be suffering on the inside. Also\, it allowed me to reflect on my practice when dealing with people to ensure I can use the best approach possible in my communication. While some of the items reviewed in the training where very difficult to consider\, they were extremely thought provoking and allowed me to learn a lot about the psychological aspects of being human."\n\n ~ Dr. Jake Prokop\, Safety Harbor Chamber Board Member\n\n \n\nPeer-reviewed studies show that individuals trained in MHFA:\n\n	Expand their knowledge of signs\, symptoms and risk factors of mental health and substance use challenges.\n	Can identify appropriate types of professionals and self-help resources for individuals with a mental health or substance use challenge.\n	Have increased confidence in and likelihood to help an individual in distress.\n	Show increased mental wellbeing themselves.\n\nThese strategies can also be applied to help when someone is experiencing:\n\n\n	A panic attack\n	Changes in behavior and performance\n	Frustration or anger\n\nCOMMITMENT\n\nThe training is about a 9-hour commitment to obtain the nationally recognized certification\, consisting of:\n\n\n	2 hours of online self-paced pre-work to be completed 7 days before the live training class\n	7 hours of a live training class\n\nTRAINING DETAILS \n\nThis training will take place:\n\n\n	Date: Friday\, December 6\, 2024\n	Time: 9AM 4PM\n	Location: St. Petersburg College's EpiCenter 13805 58th St N\, Clearwater\, 33760\n\nREGISTRATION\n\nIn order to qualify to take this training for FREE thanks to grant funding\, you must live\, work\, or volunteer in Hillsborough\, Pinellas\, Pasco\, Hernando\, or Citrus County.
